Hogwarts Legacy launches February 10 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X, April 4 for PS4 and Xbox One, and July 25 for Switch. Fans that want a guaranteed smooth experience with Hogwarts Legacy will want to consider picking up the PC, PS5, or Xbox Series X version of the game instead if they have the means. Perhaps the Hogwarts Legacy release date delay for the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions of the game will allow it to avoid having too many issues with fast-traveling and load times, but that remains to be seen. However, it's hard to see how it's going to accomplish this without making some serious concessions, whether that includes a graphics downgrade or some other change. It's entirely possible that the ports of Hogwarts Legacy on older consoles will run perfectly fine. Now, that doesn't mean that the load times in Hogwarts Legacy are guaranteed to be a problem when the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions of the game launch later in 2023. This isn't a big deal on PS5 and Xbox Series X hardware because of their lightning-fast load times, but it could prove to be a huge problem when the game comes to PS4, Switch, and Xbox One later this year. Hogwarts Legacy is an immersive, open-world action RPG set in the world first introduced in the Harry Potter books. Every time one fast-travels in Hogwarts Legacy, it triggers a loading screen. Hogwarts Legacy has dozens of fast-travel points and players often need to zip from one to the other to talk to different characters and reach areas to progress quests. Hogwarts Legacy is designed in a way that encourages players to fast-travel frequently. The versions of Hogwarts Legacy coming to older hardware are going to have a major obstacle ahead of them: the load times. RELATED: Hogwarts Legacy Gets Hundreds of Thousands of Players on PC Days Ahead of Its Full Release Because of the delay, PS4 and Xbox One gamers have to wait until April 4 to play Hogwarts Legacy, while those on Switch have to wait all the way until July 25 to get their hands on the game. This way, the developers could focus on ensuring that all versions of the game lived up to expectations. The original plan was for all versions of Hogwarts Legacy to release on the same day, but then the decision was made to delay the PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions of the open world Harry Potter game. Hogwarts Legacy reviews have been largely positive, with the game available to play now in early access and enjoying its full release on PC and next-gen platforms beginning February 10. I'm hoping Avalanche takes the time and care Hogwarts Legacy on Switch needs, but only time will tell if the game on Switch is as spellbinding as its PS5 counterpart appears to be.Hogwarts Legacy is enjoying a great deal of praise when it comes to the PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X versions of the game, but the upcoming PS4, Switch, and Xbox One versions may struggle due to outdated hardware. I certainly don't expect the experience to be the same as it will be on the latest hardware. Creating a game across generations isn't an easy task, and Hogwarts Legacy doesn't seem to be pulling any punches when it comes to utilizing the PS5's power - we saw combat between multiple enemies and tons of spells (and special effects) whizzing past the camera, then there's the ability to fly around Hogwarts on the back of a broom, demanding significant draw distances from the console.Īll this means the developer could run into performance issues developing Hogwarts Legacy for the less powerful Switch. There's almost no way that Hogwarts Legacy will look the same on Switch as it did in the PS5 gameplay, but it's likely it won't perform as well either. I just hope switch owners don’t get to excited - unless the devs work magic, I can’t imagine it looking much better than TW3 - if that’s okay for a person fair enough, but I personally wouldn’t blow £60/£70 on the switch version when well.even a PS4/Xbox one would play it better which, ultimately is a cheap purchase for anyone solely on switch atm. The question is, with so much going on on-screen, will the Nintendo Switch be able to capture that magic? I'm worried the PS4 and Xbox One will be able to cope, let alone the Nintendo Switch. The build we saw in the State of Play showcase was running on PS5, so we were seeing the game at its current-gen best. Hogwarts Legacy's gameplay reveal introduced us to a richly detailed and, frankly, gorgeous take on the Harry Potter universe.
